ROXBOROUGH — Philadelphia police have confirmed that shots were fired in an early morning armed robbery at the Wendy’s restaurant on the 5900 block of Ridge Avenue in Roxborough.

The incident took place just after 1 a.m. on Aug. 29 when three people drove up to the Wendy’s drive-through in a black SUV, two got out, and entered the restaurant “through an ajar rear door,” police told The Review on Tuesday. Once inside, the two men demanded that the cash registers be emptied, and one of the two entered the manager’s office and fired four shots at the safe.

The two then fled through the rear door, got into the black SUV, and fled southbound on the 5900 block of Ridge after stealing $347 from the registers, police said.

A first suspect is described by police as a black male of unknown age, tall, wearing a black ski mask, white tee shirt, dark pants, and dark boots, with blue latex gloves and armed with a black semi-automatic handgun. The second suspect, who fired the shots at the safe, is described by police as a black male of unknown age, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt pulled tight to his face, with a face cover, blue gloves, dark pants and dark boots, also armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.

A third person in the car never got out, according to police, and the vehicle is described as a dark-colored 2010 Nissan Murano with dark tinted windows and windshield and a roof rack. The vehicle was last seen going southbound on Ridge Avenue. Police have not said whether the incident is linked with a similar armed robbery of the C and C Creamery ice cream shop the week before and just a few blocks away.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Philadelphia Police’s Northwest Detective Division at (215) 686-3153 or leave an anonymous tip at (215) 686-TIPS [8477]. This is a developing story; follow @Roxreview on Twitter for updates.
